Uriah Rosenzweig co-owns and operates Montana’s first non-alcoholic bar out of a beautiful, renovated 1976 horse trailer. Just looking at that, you would think he’s a trailblazer. And, while you’d be correct, he also has a secret; he’s freshly off a sobriety restart, recently celebrating two days sober.
An on-and-off battle for him, Rosenzweig’s experience with sobriety offers a heartfelt reminder of the complexities surrounding addiction—a mix of challenges, fears, and a deep desire for change. Rosenzweig humbly gave us a raw and unedited glimpse of his path as he navigates this crucial time in his life while holding onto hope for a brighter future.

Finding the Motivation to Seek Sobriety
For Rosenzweig, the decision to pursue sobriety isn't a simple one. After years of grappling with addiction, he has a complex, yet clear, understanding that he can’t successfully run a non-alcoholic beverage business while drinking alcohol.
“It doesn’t fit with my integrity and morals,” he said.
This realization has propelled him toward seeing the value of getting back up after he falls, highlighting the importance of aligning actions with one’s values.
Facing the Struggles Head-On
Rosenzweig’s journey has faced innumerable challenges. He regularly deals with feelings of fear, loneliness, and isolation. To any addict reading this, that shouldn’t be an unfamiliar triumvirate.
“I’m afraid that I won’t be able to grow my business like I want,” he shares, reflecting on the weight of these concerns.
Every day proves difficult, especially when he passes by the gas station, where the temptation for his daily dose of Screwball, a peanut butter flavored whiskey, lurks. These moments can be heavy, filled with self-doubt and a deep sense of disappointment.
Searching for Breakthroughs
At this point, Rosenzweig hasn’t identified any significant breakthroughs. For him, just recognizing the need to change is a vital step.
“I just know I can’t continue to drink and smoke weed if I want to be who I aspire to be,” he admits.
This commitment to self-reflection is essential for personal growth, even if the outlook feels uncertain.
Navigating the Secret Struggle
Interestingly, Rosenzweig has chosen not to disclose his struggles to anyone, until now.
“Nobody really knows I’m drinking,” he reveals. “It’s a big ol’ secret,”
While this secrecy can add to the burden of his journey, the idea that he was open to participate in this story shows a tremendous amount of accountability and self-love. Additionally, the inconsistent nature of a sobriety journey underscores just how vital it is to find a support system, even if it’s just a single, trusted person.
Finding Strength in Busy Days
Rosenzweig recognizes that staying active can help him maintain his sobriety.
“When I workout and keep myself busy, I stay sober,” he notes.
However, he’s currently feeling overwhelmed and isn’t as active. It’s an important reminder that even when we know what helps, it can be tough to follow through during challenging times.
The Clarity That Sobriety Brings
Despite the bumps, Rosenzweig acknowledges the transformative power of sobriety.
“When I’m sober and clear-minded, my life feels like a gift,” he shares.
This clarity isn’t just a fleeting feeling—it's a profound realization of what life can be when he’s not bogged down by substances. And Rosenzweig feels strongly enough about discovering that profundity once more that he is willing to get up and keep fighting.
Words of Encouragement for Others
For anyone contemplating sobriety, Rosenzweig offers some honest advice.
“Give it a try, he said. “We don’t do this thing perfectly.”
He acknowledges the reality that relapse can happen, but that doesn't mean all is lost. In fact, for many, it’s an important part of their sobriety story.
“You’re not alone in this,” he reassures.
Just…Keep…Going
Rosenzweig’s experience reflects the intricate path of sobriety—a road filled with seemingly insurmountable challenges, yet rich with the potential for hope and renewal. While he is currently navigating tough spots, he hopes that by sharing his story, he can inspire others who may be facing similar battles.

Every Path is Different
Remember, each person’s path to sobriety is unique, and it’s okay to have ups and downs along the way. It’s also ok to test boundaries that feel safe and healthy for you. And know that your effort can be imperfect, as long as it drives you toward a better life for you.
At Dry Lush, we join Rosenzweig in encouraging anyone questioning their relationship with alcohol to reach out for help, connect with others, and take each day as it comes.
Every step you take toward a life you know feels right–whether that means becoming sober, embracing sober curiosity, or anything related–is a step toward a more hopeful and fulfilling life. Cheers to that.
Finally, Uriah, a note from Dry Lush Owner/Founder (and, more importantly, your friend), Erin Hall: “You impress me every day, brother. You’re a great guy with grit and intention, and you have big ideas that are rivaled only by your big and awesome personality. Keep putting yourself first; it’s not going to be easy, but it’s ALWAYS worth it. I’m in your corner (alongside so many others!). You’ve got this!
